Alberto Sellés: flamenco passion

Teatro Flamenco Sevilla is proud to introduce Alberto Sellés, flamenco dancer who regularly performs in our live flamenco show in Seville, and who has been demonstrating his love for flamenco dance since he was six.

Alberto Sellés was born in San Fernando, Cádiz, in 1991 and it is from here that he learned the basics of flamenco dancing in the Academia Virginia y Verónica Vélez. From a young age he showed a great love for flamenco dance and since then he has not stopped dancing and learning.

The flamenco career of Alberto Sellés

Alberto Sellés began flamenco dancing in the Academia Tronío, with Virginia and Verónica Vélez, at the tender age of 4 years old. When he was six, he took part in the TV contest, “Veo, Veo” presented by Teresa Rabal, receiving the First Prize in the Most Promising Newcomer category. At seven years old he continued his training with Angelita Gómez for two years, then at nine, he started with Patricia Ibáñez, a flamenco dancer from Jerez. He trained with Patricia from nine till sixteen when he came to Seville.

In 2007 he won the “Best Young Artist” prize at the XIX City of Ubrique Flamenco Arts Competition and in 2008, when he was only 16 years old, he was the winner of the first prize in the IX Huelva Flamenco Arts Competition, which included a grant to study flamenco at the Cristina Heeren Foundation in Seville. He later became a monitor at the Foundation. During his time at the Foundation he was pleased to get to know important flamenco artists, such as Javier Barón, Rafael Campallo, Andrés Peña and Ursula López, amongst others.

Throughout his career he has received numerous prizes, coming in first place in different competitions such as XVIII Estepona Competition, the IX City of Huelva Flamenco Dance Competition, the Most Promising Newcomer prize at the Jerez Flamenco Festival in 2014.

In 2020 he obtained First Prize at the 29th edition of the Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography Awards.

Alberto Sellés’ professional career.

Alberto Sellés presented his first show, Freedom, in Cádiz, receiving acclaim from both audiences and the press. In February 2014, in the Festival of Jerez, he debuted his show “The Bells of Oblivion”. This show highlights the traditional, flamenco singing, dancing and guitar playing from Cadiz. Alberto believes that young people in Cádiz have abandoned their flamenco roots and he wants to try to remedy this situation.

In 2016 he performed “Immanece”, together with Javier Barón and Rafael Campallo in a flamenco show in Seville. During this performance these three flamenco dancers proved that the flamenco runs through their veins, impressing the public with the force and feeling they put into every step.

In 2019 he first performed his most recent show, “Eleven” at the season of flamenco shows in Seville known as Cajasol’s Flamenco Thursdays, sharing the stage with the flamenco dancer,  Milágros Mengibar, outstanding dancer from the Seville school of dance. He achieved huge recognition from both the public and the press.

He has also reached international acclaim, presenting his flamenco shows in such different countries as Belgium, Italy, Ireland, United Kingdom and the USA, amongst others. His short term plans include continuing to advance his flamenco dancing career while expanding his knowledge and learning.

For the last two years, Alberto has belonged to the Andalusian Flamenco Ballet Company, directed by Rafaela Carrasco. In February 2023 he performed at the Maestranza Theatre in Seville with other young promising flamenco artists in the flamenco show “Divine Treasure” directed by Jose Luis Ortiz Nuevo.

His dream is to dance in a tablao flamenco, translated as flamenco stage, in Seville and we at Teatro Flamenco Sevilla will make his dream of performing in the most popular flamenco show in Seville come true. Alberto Sellés will impress us with his prowess on the flamenco stage. If you don’t want to miss this opportunity to see him perform at our live flamenco show in Seville, Passion, buy your ticket now through our web page.
